We at Weavemanila Inc love to challenge the conventional. Our weaver’s collective are definitely in a league of their own as they further explore the craft that we immersed ourselves into.

Weavemanila in Maison et Objet What’s New Booth by Elizabeth Leriche

Under the “What’s New?” section in this year’s Maison et Objet January 2019 show- one of the three themed zones was curated by the cream of the trendsetting crop, Elizabeth Leriche, François Bernard and François Delclaux. She hand-picked some exciting new finds that are showcased in the space entitled “Decor” for Elizabeth Leriche.

The Weavemanila inc “Diamant Noir et Blanc” or Black and White Diamond is featured under the “Ethnic Arty” theme, which celebrates the fusion of cultures, the blending of traditional savoir faire revisited by contemporary designers. Diverse and, at times, opposing themes. This bear witness to the fact that we live in a society full of paradox where absolutely anything goes as per Elizabeth Leriche answer in an interview.

Which new trends have caught your eye?

Elizabeth: We’re seeing a lot more concrete being used, both the actual material and imitation versions in wallpaper, paint, lights and even seating.
Then there’s a brand new approach to decorating walls using rugs that double-up as wallpaper, felt wallcoverings (from Ghislaine Garcin) and graphic panels.
And in terms of colour, electric blue is making a comeback. In fact Ressource has just brought out a Klein blue!

ASEAN-KOREA Center opens Korean Market for the Philippine Furniture Industry

Amidst the hype of “K-Pop” and “Momoland” in the Philippines, the Furniture industry sets its way to take a place in the promising domestic market of South Korea.

Ten (10) Philippine companies selected by the ASEAN-Korea Center (AKC) are currently participating in the Korea International Furniture and Interior Fair at the KINTEX Exhibition Center, Gyeonggi, Korea from 29 August to 02 September, 2018.

Among the ten companies selected are More Than A Chair, Filipino Creazione de Mano, Calfurn Manufacturing, Furnitureville, Natures’ Legacy, Country Accents, AZCOR Lightings, Venzon Lighting, Weavemanila and Markline.

This is in light of the direction of the industry to go “Glo-Cal – Global but Local” and target the huge and emerging ASEAN market in the next 5 years.

CFIP President Eduardo Zuluaga mentioned that this initiative should be continued in the next three (3) years and not just a “one-shot” deal to make marketing of products in the said market more effective. “Korean market is a 4-hour away market for the Philippines, thus it is easier to connect to the buyers and logistics would be a little easier”.

According to Trade Attache Jojie Dinsay, Philippine Commercial Counsellor in Korea, “this initiative of AKC will help Philippine companies open the doors for the Furniture companies, to understand and penetrate the Korean market.”

Moreover, he mentioned that “Korea has new south policy where they give more attention to ASEAN countries, thus it is a good time to focus on this market.”

The ASEAN-Korea Center, an international organization established to increase trade, accelerate investment flow, invigorate tourism and enrich cultural exchanges between ASEAN Member States and Korea, initiated this project through the Export Marketing Bureau (EMB), an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines (CFIP).

Manila Fame Throwback

Elegance and luxury. That is what separates the Handwoven abaca line to its other natural fiber counterpart.

Many may not know this but do you know that because of Abaca’s (Manila Hemp’s) property of being strong even when wet, even makes it perfect if you want a long lasting rug that can be enjoyed by your sons and daughters, even your grandkids?

It can be quite expensive though; making a high grade handwoven carpet is not an easy task. Weaving a simple 8×10 ft rug can take from 30 working days max if you want quality rug. In our weaving centers we encourage our craftsmen to be very precise.

So yes, yes and yes- Yes that your carpet from Weavemanila is high grade- it is not rushed and we back it with 100% guarantee of a higher quality than any other handmade abaca rug in the market! Yes that we deliver on time or even earlier and Yes- again- you are stepping on the same material as money! Can you even imagine that?!

Why is our name WEAVEMANILA?

It was amusing and a topic of conversation why an Abaca carpet manufacturer will choose the branding name of Weavemanila.

Weavemanila is based in Bicol. (Bicol is a place in the Philippines)

Hence, they asked if it is not WeaveBICOL?
We love it when people who come and visit us are curious and we both laughed as this line of thought is perfectly valid. Why not WeaveBicol (place that we are from in the Philippines)

We came up with Weavemanila because of the material that we use in making our carpets and rugs. MANILA HEMP.

Manila Hemp according to Wikipedia Manila hemp is a type of buff-colored fiber obtained from Musa textilis, a relative of edible bananas, which is also called Manila hemp[1] as well as Abacá. It is mostly used for pulping for a range of uses, including specialty papers. It was once used mainly to make manila rope. It is not actually hemp, but named so because hemp was long a major source of fiber, and other fibers were sometimes named after it. The name refers to the capital of the Philippines, one of the main producers of Manila hemp.

At first we thought, hmmmm… should we go with Weavemanilahemp? It does not sound good.

Our heritage is Bicolano, but the founders were raised in Metro Manila. We now live on both cities and is proud to be from both sides of the Philippines. It is but an honor to represent both regions in one word. Manila for Manila Hemp that Bicol is famous for as well as where our artisans have thrived for years; and Manila as for Metro Manila, were were born and raised.

Weavemanila. Our lineage and our future now woven into one. Handcrafted masterpieces that would last for years!
